Eligibility Criteria for becoming a Fitter in Merchant Navy :
(1) The candidate must be 10th pass.
(2) The candidate must have scored at least 40 % in class 10th.
(3) The age of the applicant must be between 17.5 years to 25 years.
(4) The applicant must have a good eyesight.
(5) The applicant must be mentally and physically capable.

Career path for becoming a Fitter on a ship :
(1) A 10th pass candidate can apply for the GP rating course.
(2) After this, he can join the ship as a trainee fitter.
(3) After gaining considerable amount of experience, the trainee fitter gets promoted to Fitter rank.
(4) The Fitter is responsible for the maintenance and fabrication work onboard ship.
(5) The fitter is not a watch keeper.
(6) The fitter comes under second engineer and chief engineer.
(7) The Fitter after completing 36 months of sea time, can apply MEO Class 4 examination to become a Marine Engineer.
Salary of the Fitter in Merchant Navy :
(1) Trainee Fitter Salary – USD 400 – USD 800.
(2) Fitter Salary – USD 800 – USD 2100.
(3) The trainee fitter and fitter also get the additional overtime allowances.
